Working from home responsibly
You know by now that we are R̶e̶m̶o̶t̶e̶ Office-first, and you've most probably also had a good read of Working hours and location – so you know you may work from home from time-to-time. That's cool with us.
As part of our Sustainability efforts, we encourage you to work from home responsibly, just as we aim to here in the office. How we act when nobody is watching matters, too.
Recycling.
Just as Recycling, which applies to the office space, we expect you to follow the same principles at home. If you want a little piece of Significa at home, we can even provide you with the same beautifully labelled recycling bins we have in the office.
Wherever you live, the fact is you are (for sure) a short walking distance of three recycling bins that are regularly collected by your municipality. We strongly encourage you to recycle any work-related materials and your home-life waste.
You can deposit your e-waste, such as batteries (in our battery bin) or any old hardware equipment, at the office. We will always look to reuse, recycle, and, where possible, exchange your old equipment.
Energy efficiency.
There are some very simple and easy ways to ensure you work energy-efficiently at home:
- All your devices should have power-saving settings and should be turned off when not in use. You may not need your screen on full brightness either, if you don't, lower it.
- Unplug at the end of the day. If you have your laptop plugged in 24/7, it’s a huge waste of energy. At the end of the working day, unplug. Literally and metaphorically.
- Natural lighting should be utilised whenever possible to reduce reliance on artificial lighting. It'll also do wonders for your mood.
- If you cannot work in a naturally light space, we encourage you to use energy-efficient lightbulbs, such as LEDs, with an energy rating of A.
Preferred suppliers.
When purchasing supplies or equipment, we urge you to prioritise low-impact options to suit your needs, such as recycled products or those that use minimal packaging.
Whilst most of our work is digital, we should always strive to work paperless unless otherwise necessary. However, if paper or notebooks are needed, we use mishmash ’s, who also follows the same responsible principles as we do. When in need, let us know, and we’ll restock you.
Renewable energy.
In 2023, Significa switched to running off 100% renewable sourced electricity at our office. Of course, it's far healthier for the planet to run off energy created by natural resources rather than by burning fossil fuels, but it can also work out cheaper in the long run, too.
It's the same for your home. We encourage you to consider switching to renewable electricity, particularly if you frequently work from home. EDP , for example, provides that option at a distance of a phone call to make it a seamless transition.
